People love this eyeshadow hack for airbrush nails

From the French Fade to Cold Girl Nails, airbrush manis have been having a big moment for… well, more than a moment.

Whether you opt for a pop of colour right in the middle of your nails, or want to slap on a whole bunch of hues, the trend makes for great nail art inspo.

Tinu Bello, celebrity manicurist and Mylee Senior Brand Ambassador, tells Metro.co.uk: ‘Airbrush nails are a totally tailored nostalgic mani that we’re seeing everywhere.

‘With so many ways to do the look, it’s the most unique mani around. Airbrush nails can be muted or full of rainbow colour, take over the whole nail, or just smaller areas.

‘The hazy finish gives an airy, dreamy feel to the manicure.’

And, as with countless other beauty trends that have come before it, there’s a hack for that…

We’ve seen lots of videos online showing an eyeshadow hack that looks easy as pie.

All you’ve got to do is apply a base coat of gel, then brush the desired amount of eyeshadow onto the sticky cured coat.

Apply a topcoat to seal it in place, and voilà! You’ve got an airbrush mani.

One clip on the subject posted by TikTokker @borablueprint, aka Brittany, showing the hack has earned over 154,000 likes from DIY manicurists, and another by @phoebesummernails has over 146,000 likes, so it’s safe to say the method is popular.

But, while it might look great to start off with, Tinu is here to burst that bubble.

‘Whilst this may seem like a genius hack,’ she tells us, ‘eyeshadow pigment doesn’t have the longevity that gel polish does.

‘Curing eyeshadow with a UV or LED lamp could also change the colour and texture of the eyeshadow pigment, meaning your eyeshadow airbrush mani could look amazing the first day and then change the second day onwards.’

So try it at your own risk.

But the good news, she adds, is that you still don’t necessarily need to make a trip to the salon to get the look.

‘Prep your nails as usual and apply your colour, or clear base and cure it with an LED or UV lamp,’ instructs Tinu.

‘Next is the airbrushing. The key is to swirl the colours into each other to create a blended finish. To do this you can use the Mylee Dotting Tool – place blobs of colour and swirl them together.’

It’ll be delicate work, but with patience and a steady hand, you’ll be able to fade the colour out from its edges.

You can also try blending the colour out using a clean makeup sponge – just don’t go using it to put your foundation on after you’ve covered it with gel polish!
