Winslow Rd Fire Grows to 300 Acres — Columbia Community Connection News Mid

Dufur, OR, August 29, 2023— At approximately 12:30 p.m. on August 29, 2023, Wasco County Sheriff’s Office alerted the community via their Facebook page that a brush fire has been reported south of Dufur near Winslow Road. The Sheriff’s Office also reported that Oregon Department of Forestry Central Oregon District, Dufur Volunteer Fire and Ambulance, Wamic Rural Fire Protection District, and a fire boss are en route.

The initial attack on the fire is now in progress. The ODF reported that the fire is spreading rapidly due to high winds and that the fire is currently estimated to 300-400 acres in size.

Evacuations:There is a Level 3 Go Now Evacuation order for Hix Rd, Dufur Gap Rd and Pole Rd.

There is a Level 2 Get Set, Evacuation order for Tygh Ridge Rd from the intersection of Dufur Gap Rd to the intersection of Tygh Ridge Rd Hwy 197 intersection.There is a Level 1 ,Get Ready, evacuation order in affect for the East side of Hwy 197. Tygh Ridge Rd and Pole Rd are at Level 1 Get Ready.

4:00 p.m. Fire has pushed hard to the SSE, but progress is being made with the assistance of good air support and ground crews, and structure crews.

about 3:40 p.m. A VLAT (Very Large Air Tanker) dropped retardant on the fire.

In the last few minutes an automated alert was sent out by Frontier Regional Dispatch Center indicating that there was fire on Green Ridge with evacuation notices in place. THIS IS INCORRECT INFORMATION. There is no fire on Green Ridge at this time. A retraction has been issued by Frontier. NOT THIS FIRE.
